Tudo beleza?!?!

Por aqui, as coisas estão na maior correria...... Sim, estamos NA CASA NOVA!!!! Nossa tribo está funcionando, galera, e isso nos deixa na maior alegria.....

Sabe..... Não cheguei a acompanhar o 'nascimento' do antigo Tupi, mas estou tendo a oportunidade, posso dizer que é até um privilégio, de acompanhar o 'nascimento' do novo Tupi.... Cada parede, cada quarto que fica pronto, a cozinha pronta e a Soninha voltando a fazer aqueles pratos MARAVILHOSOS.COM que só ela sabe como fazer......

Hum......

Hora do almoço..... Cadê a Soninha?!?!?!?!?!?!

Enfim......

É uma alegria poder ver tudo acontecendo, cada mudança, cada crescimento, cada pedacinho sendo posto no lugar, como um quebra-cabeças.... Só que daqueles de 5.000 peças (que você quer pendurar como um quadro depois). Pois é.... Estamos caminhando.... Mas, assim como o brinquedo, leva um tempinho..... Paciência é a palavra-chave!

Em breve, tudo estará no lugar.... E aí, entrarão os detalhes que, além de não podermos revelar (algumas surpresinhas), apenas o pajé da tribo sabe..... Enfim!!! Esperem..... Será maravilhoso e eu tenho certeza que vocês irão amar.....

Por aqui, as coisas estão na maior correria...... Sim, estamos FUNCIONANDO!!!! Nossa tribo está funcionando, galera, e isso nos deixa na maior alegria.....

Sabe..... Não cheguei a acompanhar o 'nascimento' do antigo Tupi, mas estou tendo a oportunidade, posso dizer que é até um privilégio, de acompanhar o 'nascimento' do novo Tupi.... 9 de Julho, a Mudança

Pois é, um casal de idealistas, que provavelmente não tinham nada o que fazer, em novembro de 2005 deram início a uma coisa que rapidamente tomou consciência de si própria e fugiu do controle dos seus criadores: o Albergue Tupiniquim ...

Sonhado de uma forma, planejado de outra e construído de outra o Tupiniquim simplesmente foi andando, naquele mesmo mês a Eliete ficou grávida da nossa Sophia, mas o Tupiniquim tomou o lugar como primogênito e ocupou as nossas mentes e corações por esses 5 anos ... a Eliete não está mais presente mas o Tupiniquim não sai da cabeça dela ...

E no sábado 9 de julho de 2011 após 5 1/2 anos o Tupiniquim enfrentou o seu mais duro desafio: mudar de local ... Como é que a gente mudaria um lugar tão especial ?? o que faríamos com o muro de escalada ?? e todas as coisas ?? perguntaram nervosos hóspedes e visitantes por igual ... ao que o Akelá tranquilamente (mas cagando-se por dentro) respondia: calma, tudo vai, eventualmente, pra lá ... eventualmente lá vai ser melhor do que aqui ...

Pois é meu amigo ... foda ... muito dificil mesmo ... cara, no sábado eu tava tremendo pois a coisa tinha sido mais complexa do que eu tinha achado ... e sabe a Lei de Murphy né ?? tudo o que pode dar merda dá ao mesmo tempo (tudo bem, modifiquei-a pra vocês entenderem o cabeludo da situação) ... mais com a ajuda valiosíssima de todo o staff mais um exército de pedreiros fomos nessa e deu certo ... não vou dizer certíssimo, mas foi ...

E de lá pra cá pequenas vitórias vão se acumulando ... todos os dias a parada melhora: novas tomadas, novos pisos, o balcão do bar, uma nova parede, etc ...

Galera, fiel Tribo Tupiniquim: a gente não seria nada sem vocês, peço mais uma vez a sua ajuda para terem paciência pois evidentemente o Tupiniquim não pode ser de entrada o que ao longo de 5 anos de evolução era ... mas prometo que vai ficar quase ao mesmo nivel em 30 dias, ou seja dia 15 de agosto ...

POr exemplo,a internacionalizaçao do Seu Francisco,(que agora é nada mais nada menos que uma estrela do mundo do cinema)para quem nao sabe o Seu Francisco é o nosso mestre de obras,sempre aqui inventando das suas,convenhamos, os estrangeiros tb precisam chama-lo eventualmente,entao,ao invez de " Ooooh,Seu Francisco".... chamamos de " Oooooh,Your Franfran" ....
Como todos voces jå devem saber muito bem,é frequente que temos aqui no nosso albergue,varias festas de confraternizaçao,temos festas tematicas,temos samba,temos pagode,temos chorinho...Opa!entao,como é que os estrangeiros våo entender que vai ter chorinho hoje a noite? Samba and barbacue... A Brazilian thing

Monday night,

In Rio we have this old habit of organizing bbqs to celabrete a birthday but usually is just an excuse to drink. That is why we organized our weekly barbacue on a Monday. Well, to be honest, there was a group of 15 americans arriving last Sunday, so we almost had the full house that day.
Some of these americans came here last year to volunteer in a favela for 1 week and now they are doing the tourist things, following the recommendations of Lonely Planet...
Most hostels in Rio have an ordinary bbq, which is just a set for making easy money. We are different, or at least we try. We hire a Samba group to play music and make everyone happy. They make me happy at least.
This time there was a different group from the one that we usually hire but the music was a lot better... less pagode(a variation of samba) and more true samba.
There was a lot of people dancing and it made it more difficult to cook meat for 40 people. Even the vegetarian guy ate the food and he even made a complement to the chef( thanks).
After 2 hours they had to stop the loud music because we had problems before with the neighbour...

Sou sou sou... Botafogo

Thursday night,

Another marvellous game... Botafogo, the best team of Rio in the moment, and let me add, of Brazil as well since this team only lost 3 times in 35 games in this year and thiis time the victim was Vasco da Gama.
The Tupiniquim group last Thursday had Viviane(1 of the new staff girls), Aidan(IRE), MJ(SAF), Ben,Emma, Lauren, Alexa, Ed(UK), Lisa(AUS), and the israelis Guy, Amit and Eran...
To be honest, we left late the hostel due to hunger of the israelis plus we did not have enough tickets to everyone so I had to call one scalper to get five more tickets and I could not find him in time... So the result of the equation was 15 minutes late, and we missed the 1st goal of Botafogo scored by Dodo at the 2nd minute of game.
At the 5th minute when we got to our sits we ordered the 1st round of beers (they cost 3 Reais each). Before we could finish our beers Botafogo scored again with Juninho after a foul. That was an amazing 60meters shot in the right angle, indefensible by the goalie...
Botafogo dominated the entire 1st half and missed maybe 2 or 3 good oportunities.
In the 2nd half, Vasco kept all the same players and nothing changed. They had 1 good oportunity with the 41-year old Romario (who scored 1000 goals weeks ago) but Julio Cesar saved. Botafogo kept the good rythm and scored 2 more goals in the first 15 minutes of the second half with Leandro Guerreiro e Dodo again. The crowd started to sing Uh é chocolate, uh é chocolate which means Ah, it is too easy, ah it is too easy.
On the way back we met 2 other guests... Davyde(CAN) and Vinicius(BRA) and then we decided to go to Lapa and have a few beers(it was early, 10.30pm) The night was fun but one of us had a problem in Lapa and had to go to the hospital... He is okay and his right eye is doing well again.

Novo trampo para mim!

Bom, eu comecei a trabalhar aqui praticamente junto com Vivi, que ja postou aqui tambem, acabei de ler.

O que posso dizer é que tem sido uma experiência e tanto!!

Tem sido demais, e prova disso é que eu tenho sonhado com o albergue várias noites desde que comecei a trampar aqui. E tudo em inglês. Doidera. Sonho que tô batendo papo com a moçada a noite toda, lá fora, no bar.....

Não vou dizer também que é um trampo fácil. Não é. Ralação total, tô ficando bem mais esbelta. Ha! E haja coxa! haha.

Mas isso aqui é uma loucuuura!Ainda mais pra mim que sou mineira, putz, nunca vi tanto gringo junto. E todos muito legais. Como pode?? Mas acontece. Israel, Inglaterra, Australia, Escocia e a brasileirada de Sao Paulo, Bahia, Pernambuco, todo mundo numa mistureba soh. Tem coisa melhor?

Sei que ja conheci muita gente massa, e quando eles forem embora, ai, nem sei, vou chorar!

Uma coisa é fato: quem entra aqui não quer mais sair! Será magia dos donos? Macumba? Nada! Só vindo pra crer. Esse lugar é demais, coisa de doido.

Vou ficando por aqui, eu e minhas (otimas) primeiras impressoes. Falou.....

Ola para todos!!!

Bom, meu nome e Viviane, eu trabalho aqui e vou falar um pouco do que eu estou vivendo nesse mundinho Tupiniquim. Digo mundinho pq simplesmente e impossivel sair daqui, tanto para os hopedes e para quem trabalha aqui tambem. Tem gringo que chega aqui e nao conhece o Rio de Janeiro, so fica no albergue o dia todo! Aqui realmente tem uma energia maravilhosa, e um lugar muito aconchegante, vc se sente como se estivesse na sua casa, e isso em relacao aos albergues e muito dificil. Digo isso pq ja estive em alguns e e muito complicado para os albergues terem uma atmosfera que nao seja assim, digamos, desconfortavel. E aqui realmente nao tem, especialmente pela existencia dos tao amados puffs! E no dia da minha entrevista aqui, ou seja, na primeira vez que pisei aqui, Alexandre, um dos donos do albergue me perguntou qual tinha sido minha primeira impressao e eu respondi: a gente se sente em casa! Fora as festas ne, que nem se fala, ate aula de tango tem!
E aqui vira uma familia, todo mundo sai junto, eu por exemplo digo que estou virando gringa na minha cidade, em 1 semana ja fui ao pao de acucar, ao favela-tour, ao maracana (num jogo que naao era do meu time!), praia de ipanema, ja carreguei gringo ate pro shopping fazer compras! Ah, e festa junina tambem! E amanha meu dia de folga estarei no Cristo, e provavelmente aqui tambem, como eu disse, e impossivel nao ficar neste lugar. Alguem conhece algum louco que vai pro trabalho no dia de folga? Pois e, aqui isso nao e loucura, e realidade! E fora as estorias hilarias, eu ja falei, tinha que escrever um livro desse lugar, cada estoria hilaaaria! E cada um com seu jeito, com seu pais, sua cultura, mas acaba que todo mundo aqui se entrosa e como eu ja disse, vira uma familia. O dificil e dizer tchau, tanto pra eles quanto pra gente aqui do albergue.
Bom, essa e so minha terceira semana aqui, tenho certeza que ainda vai vir muuuita estoria......e eu conto aqui depois!

Football Match - Fluminense 1 x 1 Figueirense

Wednesday night,

After the Brazilian soap opera(do not ask me the name) the channel Rede Globo transmitted the football match to the entire country... We could not miss the oportunity to see another final in the Maracana Stadium aka Temple of Football (where the best player ever, you know who, score the goal #1000)...
Well, there were 4 americans with tickets bought with some dodgy guy on the Christ Statue. So I phoned one guy called Paulinho(scalper of every kind of tickets) to see if the other 6 people could get tickets yet. Luckly he said yes.
The metro was really quiet compared to other important games in the past months... The stadium was nearly completely full but to be honest and crowd of Fluminsense did not show the same passion of Botafogo(my glorious team). The crowd were singing a lot less than normal. Maybe they were worried as the time went by...
After the 1st half ( let me add, really bad one) some peanuts and 3 beers(300% profit for the Stadium that sells the beers for 3 Reais each) I went to the toilet and belive or not, there were 20-25 men inside and they were all quiet. So I pretended to be Fluminsense and started to complain about the silence in loud voice... COME ON YOU GUYS, THIS IS THE F... FINAL, YOU ARE ALL DEATH OR WHAT ?
Nobody said anything... Where is the passion ???
The second half was a bit better and funny. We meet some others tourists trying to swear in Portugues (Filo da P..., and Buceto) just next to us so it was entertaining to teach them how to do it well.
Me and Jason were really bored since we are Botafogo fans and at the 38th minute Figueirense scored. I guy realised that I was not Fluminense fan... He started to discuss that I should not be there and stuff... Other 2 guys said the same, and 1 one them threatened me... Scary... After Fluminense scored and tied up, the scary guy took his t-shit off and started to act like a monkey(punching himself like a King Kong).
The game was about to end so we left the stadium to take the metro back...
Another football experience but this time without cheering...

Hiking to Pedra Bonita...In a cloudy day

Well folks,

Another hiking organized by the glorious Tupiniquim Hostel happened today in Pedra Bonita(you know, that is the place in São Conrado where the hang gliding pilots usually jump off)
I, Mr B. phoned the pilots to ask them about the flight condictions to avoid any problems... Well, the 1st pilot I spoke with was travelling in Londrina(south of Brazil) so he gave me another phone(one of his friends). The guy was really kind but told me that the condictions where not so good but maybe the wind could change. So I tought, ok, fine, we will do the hiking without any problems...
The conquers of this week ... Jason, Clayton, Griff, Martin(USA), Shecani(AUS), Isak(DEN), Guillermo and Ana(Puerto Rico) were really excited about going to this spot which is in my opinion the top 3 views in Rio(about 700m high).
We left Botafogo before 2pm (late like usually, we organize it to start at 1pm) and took a mini bus to Sao Conrado. I asked the driver to take us all the way up to make it faster(normally its necessary 2 buses) and he did, so we saved half an hour.
On the way up I saw a really grey cloud coming on our direction so I started to pray go get there and we could see something... Illusion...
On the way up the path we could see the fog and our hair were wet but no rain yet.
There was an easy walk and only 2 girls to complain about it... After 40-45 minutes we got to the top and surprise, we could not see a thing... we could see maybe 10-15 meters ahead... So we waited a little to see something... Another illusion again... It got worse that when we got there... There were not even a snack or something to make a barbecue so we had to head off on the way down...
Then we tried to hitch hike with some truck drivers and no luck again(well, hitch hiking in Rio is not a common thing)...so we took the bus to Sao Conrado beach and after another one to Botafogo.
As soon as we got off the bus the rain started. A lot of water to be honest, so in the end it was not that bad. We had some good laughs and no beers. Oh well.
We will keep doing the hiking every week but in better condictions.

Now its 8pm (2 hours after we came back) and the rain is still bothering...

Ola galera, então... Algumas noites atrás, tivemos um simpático irlandês como hóspede. Felizmente ele era uma ótima pessoa e nós nunca tivemos problemas com ele. MAAAAASS "infelizmente" na sua última noite ele deu mole (= fez merdinha) ... Eu estava indo embora pela manhã quando este rapaz acorda e me pede ajuda pra ir ao banheiro, eu digo que posso ajudá-lo em qualquer coisa mas eu não ia encostar nele nunca !!! Então eu mostro a ele aonde é o banheiro e vou embora.... Quando estou quase (quando digo quase.. eu falo sério !!) saindo a Ju me chama dizendo q estamos com um "pequeno problema" no banheiro... Eu volto pra checar o que ela estava falando .... e encontro nosso pequeno problema. Nosso querido amigo William estava deitado no chão do banheiro em cima do seu próprio mijo... detalhadamente ele estava com as calças, camisa, sapato e cabelos encharcados com seu próprio mijo. Então eu tentei acordá-lo de todas as formas posíveis... e infelizmente não tive êxito. Dei socos bem fortes e o malandro nada. Então eu desisti e resolvi voltar pra casa. No final das contas a Ju me disse que o acordou o coitado com um copo de água .. ele acordou meio assustado .. e FELIZMENTE limpou toda a sua bagunçam, tomou um banho e foi dormir.... OU seja galerinha.. fez merda.. LIMPA !! Senão os queridos recepcionistas tupiniquins vão usar técnicas chinesas de tortura para consertar futuros "problemas".

Só rindo mesmo!! Eu ( Tatiana), pedi para que tirarassem o material da escalada e colocassem no sol para poder secar (todos os sapatos estão úmidos) e simplesmente tiraram TODAS as cordas do muro e deixaram os sapatos dentro do saco! huahauhauahuahua.... Isso deixou o BIG BOSS muito irritado! hahauhauhauah.... Sei que sou lerda mas a galera abusa!!!! huahuahauhauahuah

Sao Cristovao Fair

Yesterday, a big group left the hostel to go to the fair in Sao Critovao, to learn more about the Northeast culture... Despite the heat and smoke from all the barbecuing that was taking place, it was a nice experience. And it's always fun seeing Eliete eating up everything she can put her hands on (it's not her fault...). Her tab at the fair included açai, grilled cheese, yuca w/ meat, juices, and to top it off a giant cocada (that we all helped her finish - it was delicious)!!!

guided tour, reservation

As stated in earlier posts, Rio de Janeiro has many cultural options that are ignored by most tourist, and even by most cariocas! The Municipal Theater as well as the National Library are interesting, beautiful places to visit... However, I would recommend for people to make their reservations for the guided tours. There is an exact number of spots available, and these get filled quickly this time of year. Run! It's worth it!

Rio, when it rains...

Although Rio de Janeiro is most well-known for its wonderful beaches and parks, there is a whole other side of this city that tourists never get familiar with. I myself love culture, literature, though-sparking movies, and all other aspects of alternative entertainment here; Tupiniquim Hostel also gives attention to these less popular parts of Rio. Here, we are worried that many visitors do not visit museums and galleries due to the lack of information and value given by the cariocas themselves. Therefore, we recommend a nice tour in the Centro (Downtown)... There are so many Cultural Centers (CCBB, CCC - Correios, etc). The Municipal Theather is another must. And there are museums everywhere. Switching the topic to art movies (not the blockbusters), close to us here in Botafogo there are the Unibanco Movie Theathers (Espaço Unibanco and Estação Unibanco), both are great, and have this great coffee shop/restaurant called Atelie Culinário (capuccino and brownies are amazing).
The point is... there is no reason for one to get discouraged just because it's raining, or it's not sunny out... Maybe you will get a lot more out of Rio than you had planned in the first place. Enjoy!

Nightlife at your doorsteps...

Yesterday, I had a great time at "Casa da Matriz", here in Botafogo. That's another aspect of Rio that one can count on... Either a nightclub or a bar somewhere close to where you are (wherever that may be). Furthermore, it was not just any nightclub; I can't deny it - I was pretty impressed with the music and the people. It's a must if you want to meet new people and dance to all different kinds of rock. Our hostel is very close to Matriz, so Pri and I went walking yesterday; and on my way back, the cab ride came out to be less than $5. To get in it's only $6... Even if you want to have some drinks, it's not expensive at all compared to other Zona Sul places.

In conclusion, I recommend it. Besides, Tupiniquim Hostel is trying to make an agreement with the place, to see if we and the Tupiniquim guests can get in for free. (those European people spend half of their euros in alcohol, anyway).

nice, warm patio

I'm glad to say that things really came together this week, and our patio feels so welcoming, especially right in front of the hostel's entrance. I'm sure it's going to make the best social area! Can't wait to see a bunch of people from all over the world, that somewhom heard of this beautiful Rio de Janeiro of ours. As a matter of fact, yesterday I met some people that were on their way to the airport, and they were completely taken by this beautiful city. I can relate, being from Petropolis and all.

coffee, bookstores and Rio

I love both books and coffee (and obviously Rio de Janeiro), so... one of the greatest advantages of being in a hostel so close to Volutarios da Patria street is that I can go out, watch a movie, buy a book, drink a nice capuccino... and not worry about how late it is. I suggest the bookstore Prefacio for people who like beer and bars, because they have one of the best bars in Rio. And for the best samon salad, followed by a nice steaming capuccino, I would mention the Atelie Culinario, inside of Espaco Unibanco Movie Theater. Man, just talking about it makes me want to go spend all my money there (and I don't have a lot left...)

Quem diz q abrir um albergue é mole ??
cara, ninguém merece escrever no blog recém criado às 3 da matina ...
pra falar do q ?? de como estou me matando nessas últimas semanas pra criar a página do albergue ?? naum ...
mas posso falar q to muito feliz com a obra q hoje progrediu particularmente bem ...

o piso (modelo "ipanema" por sinal) ficou muito maneiro na entrada do quarto dos gêmeos, as pedras já estão no lugar e seu Francisco tá pintando q é uma blz ... isso sem contar q incrivelmente seu Paulo botou uma galera pra trabalhar de verdade, o Alex tá pintando a fachada e tem um cara q pegou as paredes brancas (tudo bem q só tá atacando cal mas por enquanto tá dando pra levar)
